We at New Community send our deepest condolences to the family of Sharpe James, Newark’s longest-serving mayor, who passed away on May 11 at the age of 89.
Sharpe James left a lasting impact on the city and will be remembered for years to come. He laid the groundwork for the Prudential Center by supporting an arena in the city and advocated for development in the downtown area. He never lost an election and served as the city’s mayor for 20 years.
We pray for his family that they will find peace in their time of sorrow.
