The Purpose of the Law

The Law of God is on the one hand held in high esteem by many Christians, but there is also a great confusion surrounding the Law of God. Many Christians see the Law of God as the means of Eternal Life in the Old Testament for both Adam and Israel. It is often understood that God required Adam's perfect obedience to the Law in order to receive Eternal Life and when Adam broke God's command he brought a curse upon himself and all of humanity. What both Adam and Israel were unable to do in keeping the Law of God, Jesus comes as the God-Man to perfectly keep the Law of God for us so that we should then have Eternal Life. But is that really why the Law of God was given? Does the Law give life? Or is Eternal Life found in God the Father who gives Eternal Life to the Son and the Son then gives it to those who are born again by faith through the Holy Spirit? We explore this and more in this sermon as we kickstart this new teaching series on the Law of God.
